SALEM VAN DER SWAAGG is a multidisciplinary designer working across color, materials, textiles, furniture, product and interior design. Based between New York and Berlin, she has spent the past two decades specializing in color and material strategy for interiors and products, with particular expertise in woven developments and the creation of surface and finish programs for leading American and European contract furniture and textile brands. Over the last four years, she has collaborated closely with Pernilla Ohrstedt and Jonathan Olivares to evolve Knoll’s design language, contributing to color and material development, spatial and surface design, showrooms, and retail environments. Drawing on a broad understanding of how manufacturing, materials, and use shape the design of objects and space, van der Swaagh combines expertise in product development and design strategy with a deep sensitivity to context. Rooted in research and rigorous prototyping, her work transcends a singular design language, favoring thoughtful material expression, sophistication and enduring relevance.
