Knoll Chicago Showroom 1100

Following our work on Knoll’s showroom at 811 West Fulton Market, Pernilla Ohrstedt and I developed the interior and showroom design for Knoll’snew space at 1100 West Fulton Market, beginning in 2025 and evolving through 2026 and beyond. The showroom was conceived as a flexible interior landscape rather than a series of fixed product displays.Architecture, furniture, textiles, color, ma-terial, art, and objects were considered together, creating environments that move fluidly between workplace, hospitality, and domestic scales. Thespatial framework allows the showroom to continually change while maintaining a clear and recognizable identity.Material and color play an architectural role throughout the space. Quiet, tactile surfaces establish a continuous foundation, while more concentratedmoments of color and material give individual settings their character. Historic and contemporary Knoll designs are deliberately brought into conver-sation, emphasizing the continuity of the collection rather than separating it by period or typology.Developed over successive installations in 2025 and 2026, the showroom became an evolving expression of Knoll—a space designed to changewith the collection while maintaining a consistent point of view through proportion, material, color, and composition.I especially like the idea of calling it an “evolving expression of Knoll” because you designed it across two years. It makes the changing showroominstallations part of the project rather than making 2025 and 2026 seem like two separate interiors.
