The interiors for Knoll’s Chicago showrooms explore how color, textile, light, and material can give definition and intimacy to large, open commercial spaces. Rather than relying on conventional architectural partitions, translucent and saturated curtains are used as spatial elements—filtering daylight, creating degrees of privacy, and allowing the character of individual settings to shift throughout the day. Within this soft architectural framework, furniture is organized into distinct environments that move between workplace, meeting, and domestic typologies. Restrained fields of white, grey, black, and natural wood create moments of quiet, while concentrated areas of color introduce contrast and atmosphere. Reflective surfaces, leather, stone, textiles, and metal are layered to give each setting its own material identity without losing continuity across the larger showroom. The result is an interior that feels open yet composed: a sequence of rooms defined less by fixed boundaries than by changes in transparency, texture, color, and light.
