Knoll : Milan Retail
For Knoll’s Milan retail showroom, Pernilla Ohrstedt and I developed an interior around a series of soft, curved boundaries and reflective surfaces. A sweeping curtain creates an enclosure within the showroom, forming an intimate interior without the permanence of a constructed wall and providing a continuous backdrop for furniture and objects. The walls were finished in silver paint, giving the space a subtle reflective quality that shifts with daylight and artificial light.Against this warm metallic field, the curtain introduces softness, movement, and depth, while saturated upholstery and richly textured materials bring warmth and intensity. Furniture, art, lighting, and objects were composed as part of the same material landscape, moving between polished and matte, soft and reflective, neutral and saturated. The result uses contrast in surface and texture to transform the perception of the space—allowing light, material, and color to become architectural elements in their own right.
